Getting Around Bariloche

Bariloche splits neatly into a walkable downtown and a long lakeshore corridor of sights. Matching the right transport to each part is the key to an easy trip. Here is the simple version that works for almost every visitor.

Walking downtown

The Centro Civico, the chocolate shops on Avenida Mitre, the parrillas, craft-beer bars, and the lakefront promenade are all an easy walk apart. For your downtown time, you will not need transport at all.

The lakeshore bus

Local buses run west out of the centre along Avenida Bustillo, the corridor that holds most of Bariloche's sights. You can ride toward Cerro Campanario, Llao Llao, and the start of the Circuito Chico, hopping on and off with the schedule. It is the budget-friendly way to reach the lakeshore without driving; check current routes and timetables locally.

Renting a car

For maximum flexibility, rent a car. It transforms the Circuito Chico, lets you stop at viewpoints and beaches at will, and is the best way to do the Ruta de los Siete Lagos day trip north. Roads to the main sights are paved and in good condition.

Organised tours

If you would rather not drive, well-run day tours cover the Circuito Chico, Cerro Catedral, Isla Victoria catamarans, and the Seven Lakes, with hotel pickup and a guide. A good option for the longer or logistically trickier trips.

Taxis and getting here

Taxis and ride apps work in town and are handy at night or with luggage. Bariloche has its own airport (BRC) with frequent flights from Buenos Aires, and long-distance buses connect it to the rest of Patagonia and the country.

When to just walk or cycle

Downtown is for walking. The Circuito Chico is also a celebrated cycling route, mostly paved with some hills, if you would rather pedal the loop than drive it.
