The Best Day Trips from Salta

Salta is one of the best bases in Argentina for scenic excursions. The city is the launchpad for red-rock canyons, high-altitude vineyards, salt flats, and legendary mountain roads. Some of these are long full-day trips; for the furthest, an overnight makes a calmer experience. Save the ones that fit your trip.

Can you do Cafayate as a day trip from Salta?
Yes. Cafayate is about 190km south via the scenic Quebrada de las Conchas (RN 68), roughly three hours of driving with stops. It makes a long but rewarding day trip, though staying overnight lets you slow down for the wineries and a vineyard sunset.
