The Best Day Trips from Palma de Mallorca

Palma is the gateway to one of the Mediterranean's most varied islands, and some of the finest days of a trip are spent out of the city. To the northwest the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana rises in limestone peaks above stone villages; to the north a clifftop road snakes to a lighthouse over the sea; to the south lie the island's wildest beaches; and the bay itself opens up by boat. These are the day trips worth the early start; save them to plan transport and timings.

FAQ

What is the best day trip from Palma de Mallorca?
The Serra de Tramuntana is the standout: a single day can take in Valldemossa, Deia, and Soller, with their stone houses, olive terraces, and mountain views. The vintage wooden train from Palma to Soller is a memorable way to reach it without a car.
Do I need a car for day trips from Palma?
A rental car gives the most freedom, especially for the Tramuntana, Cap de Formentor, and Es Trenc. But you can also reach Soller on the historic train, and the cheap TIB buses serve Valldemossa, the beaches, and the main towns, so a car is not essential.
Can you take the Soller train from Palma?
Yes. The historic Ferrocarril de Soller, a vintage wooden train running since 1912, climbs from Placa d'Espanya in Palma through the Tramuntana to the town of Soller, where a connecting tram continues to the port. It is a paid heritage experience and one of the island's best.
