The Best Time to Visit Seville

Seville has a glorious but extreme climate, mild and beautiful for much of the year, and ferociously hot at its peak. Here is how to choose your timing based on weather, festivals, and crowds.

Spring (March-May)

The finest season: warm, sunny days, blue skies, and the city perfumed by orange blossom and, in late spring, purple jacaranda. Spring also holds Seville's two great events back to back, the solemn processions of Semana Santa (Holy Week, the week before Easter) and, about two weeks later, the riotously festive Feria de Abril, a week of flamenco dresses, horses, and casetas. Book accommodation months ahead for both.

Summer (June-August)

Gloriously hot, often topping 40°C in July and August, when the city slows at midday and comes alive only after dark. It is not for the heat-averse, but rooms are cheaper, the evenings along the river and in the squares are magical, and the Velá de Santa Ana fills Triana with riverside revelry in late July. Pace yourself, hydrate, and follow the shade.

Autumn (September-November)

Almost as lovely as spring: the fierce heat breaks, the light turns golden, and the crowds thin. In even-numbered years, September brings the Bienal de Flamenco, the world's most important flamenco festival, which in 2026 runs from 9 September to 3 October across stages all over the city. A wonderful time for culture lovers.

Winter (December-February)

Mild by northern-European standards, cool but rarely cold, and blissfully quiet. Days are short and you may catch some rain, but queues at the Alcázar and Cathedral shrink, prices drop, and the city feels like it belongs to its residents again. Pack a jacket for the evenings.

Quick recommendation

For the best balance of weather, light, and atmosphere, aim for April-May or late September-October. Come in spring for the festivals (and book early), in winter for a quiet, cheaper, sightseeing-focused trip, and brave high summer only if you love the heat and the long, late evenings.

FAQ

When is the best time to visit Seville?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October) offer the most comfortable weather and the best light, warm days, clear skies, and manageable crowds. Avoid the peak heat of July and August, often over 40°C, unless you love the heat and the late-night culture.
When are Semana Santa and the Feria de Abril?
Semana Santa is Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter (late March or April), and the Feria de Abril follows about two weeks later. Both are spectacular but transform the city, with processions, closures, and crowds, so book accommodation months in advance.
Is it too hot to visit Seville in summer?
July and August are very hot, regularly topping 40°C. It is doable if you sightsee early, rest indoors or over a long lunch at midday, and enjoy the cooler evenings. You will also find lower prices and thinner crowds as a trade-off.
